Piano for beginners No Comments »

I know many of you are trying to use Youtube or other online resources to teach yourselves how to play piano (or any musical instrument, really), or just to learn how to play piano online alone. Here are five tips to help you avoid some common mistakes all self learners encounter.

(For the record, I think that studying with a teacher is ALWAYS better than studying alone, but I understand many of you don’t have this opportunity, due to cost, location or other factors.)

Teach Yourself Piano (Piano Lesson #1 of 5 “Joy to the World” Piano Lessons)

Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” This is 1st of 5 piano lessons teaching how to play a very nice, pro sounding version of the great holiday tune “Joy to the World.” Scott’s life goal is to help you teach yourself piano skills to get you started having some fun at a piano or keyboard as quickly as possible.

In this first piano lesson, Scott starts by teaching you how to play the right hand part. Then Houston demonstrates step by step how to play the baseline with your left hand. Then shows how to play the baseline in octaves to achieve a fuller sound.

Additionally, he shares a tip for avoiding a “thumb crash.” The video concludes with showing how to put your hands together.

Scott Houston is the host of The Piano Guy television series on Public Television and has taught hundreds of thousands of folks like yourself, how to have some fun on their piano or keyboard. He wants to help you get there too—as quickly as possible.

Learn jazz piano No Comments »

In today’s lesson, I am going to show you how to teach yourself piano using YouTube and online resources. If you are looking to become a self taught piano player, then it is possible. However, you should know that there are a few elements missing from learning piano online compared to with a teacher, but you can overcome some of those which I will show you in the lesson. One thing I discuss in the lesson is that when self learning piano, you will want to record yourself so that you can keep track of your piano progress.

Also, if you are wanting to learn to play piano online for free, you will want to start at the right place. I have a playlist which can help you with this. You can find it here.
