What’s up my piano friends! Today we’re going over the ULTIMATE guide to chords for piano beginners. Now, this is the EASY version. I’m going to simplify this mofo as much as humanly possible.

First I’m going to give you some copy-and-paste formulas for quickly figuring out Major and Minor chords. I call it the BOOM method (you’ll see what I mean in the video…)

Next we’re going to go over some quick-and-easy cheat sheets to help you find and play chords faster than if you used the formula alone. These are a huge time saver. PLUS you can print these off, tape them to your mirror, and study your chords every time you brush your teeth (hows that for passive learning! 😉

Next we’re going to simplify Chord Inversions for ya. And lastly we’re going to be learning an actual song from SCRATCH (“All of Me” by John Legend if you were wondering!)

We’re going to learn the song withOUT downloading any sheet music, or even using our ear. Just basic chords. You’ll see what I mean in the video. Oh, and you can find all the info in some free online resources.

Anyway, I’m hoping to be VERY comprehensive with this video. I want this to be the LAST time you have to go looking up “how to play piano chords” on YouTube.

Oh, and by the way make sure you’re paying attention… there’s going to be a quiz at the end to test your knowledge 😉

A simple and efficient method to construct ANY major & minor chord on the piano.

In this piano tutorial, we look at an easy method to build major and minor chords. The idea is to count the notes in half-steps. Doing this allows us to count the notes between each note.

For example, a major chord plays the root note, skips 3 notes, plays the next note, skips 2 notes and plays the next note. So the first skip is 3 and the second skip is 2. Therefore we can call major chords “3-2” chords. This applies to ALL major chords.

To construct a minor chord we need to reverse this, so we need to play a “2-3” chord. An easy way to remember this is because the first skip of the minor chord is small, and minor & small can mean a similar thing.
